Just a little fun, but did you know that Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was based in an office on the site of our development with the Crown Estate at 10 New Burlington Street?
The photo is of an advertisement he placed in the Times in 1914 looking for men to join him on his failed third trip to the Antarctic with his ship the Endurance. Of course the trip was not the success he hoped for after early in 1915 his ship became trapped in ice and sunk 10 months later. Through amazing perseverance all of the men on the trip finally made it to safety by August 1916.
Shackleton died of a heart attack off South Georgia in 1922 whilst on a fourth exhibition aimed to circumnavigate the Antarctic continent.
