A stunning new arrival to Regent Street has just been uncovered in the form of a public art commission created by Rona Smith. Rona Smith is a young exciting London based artist working primarily in sculpture and installation.
For this project Rona carefully researched the history of the Regent Street area which was formerly a hub for watch makers in the early 20th century; the same time that the famous Regent Street buildings that we see today were constructed.
Rona’s commission titled ‘An Age, An Instant’ takes inspiration from engravings on turn of the century pocket watches and offers a link to the past through a contemporary expression of mechanical time-keeping. The commission takes the form of two 3m high bronze gates along with a portland stone passage inlaid with a detailed bronze design.
