Following an international competition undertaken within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Exemplar was appointed exclusive development partner by the Canadian Government.
The project had two distinct phases; firstly Exemplar were charged with locating, securing and developing a new state-of-the-art Chancery facility within Central London and secondly, once the new Chancery had been completed, to redevelop their existing building in Grosvenor Square, Macdonald House, ensuring best value and maximum return for the Canadian Government and people.
The historic Macdonald House, 1 Grosvenor Street, fronts Grosvenor Square and was previously the Embassy of the United States of America until they moved their current location on the opposite side of the Square in 1960. Our initial proposals for Macdonald House envisaged a redevelopment behind the existing facade, designed by leading architects Squire & Partners, which provided for circa 140,000 sq ft of prime residential accommodation. Unfortunately the project was eventually cancelled due to Canadian austerity measures.
